A new method for drilling waste management based on composting and solar desalination

Drilling cutting and mud waste are considered as saline or super saline slurries, and management of them is the main environmental concern for gas and oil drilling operations. The oil and gas drilling waste management methods have two main operational parts which include water recovery and waste treatment. However, the traditional methods costly and unable to wipe all the environmental concerns, so, a new method invented and organized to reduce these concerns by authors. By approval and cooperation of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), the method fully operated in Nafte Sefid, ShuShtar County, Khuzestan province, Iran for Masjed Soleiman Oil & Gas Production Co. (MISOGPC), Subsidiary of National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC) in 2019. This new method showed good operational performance according to NIOC consideration and showed a new innovative way to reduce the environmental impacts of oil (gas) well drilling. In conclusion, it should mention, this new method is a complex of different processes which never used as the same system for drilling waste management operation. This invented method based on biological remediation, chemical water treatment and solar desalination, and at the bottom, produce soil, salt and freshwater, also, left no bad trace in the environment.
